Broadway Star Lea Salonga Teams Up with George Takei of Star Trek in a New American Musical

with 4 comments

I was doing my thing in Facebook when I noticed this ad on the right that featured a somewhat blurred picture of Lea Salonga.

In my curiosity, I clicked on the ad and landed in a Facebook Fan Page called “Allegiance – A New Musical.” However, clicking on the “Info” tab displayed something weird – “Founded August 2008.” Is this a muscial that’s played a few years ago yet somehow nobody knew about it? Funny, for Lea Salonga to star in it, it couldn’t be an unknown event.

So, I clicked on the website http://www.allegiancemusical.com/ and landed at finally what it was all about.

George Takei? The Star Trek guy? Oh, wow! For someone who loves both the arts and Star Trek, it’s a perfect combination for a musical. Though I should say, it must be a really big musical production in the works as the slated run date starts in 2012 – two years from now!

Lea, now this is intriguingly exciting!

  1. This isn’t new anymore. Lea wrote this in her Backstory a year ago! The musical had two readings already, one in LA last year and the recent one on Lea’s birthday in NYC!

  2. Raffy,

I’m the composer and lyricist for Allegiance. We are currently in workshop development, having held our first NYC reading in February 2010, with both Lea Salonga and George Takei in the cast. The show also stars Telly Leung and Allie Trimm. Casting by telsey + co and general management by Charlotte Wilcox. Allegiance is produced by Lorenzo Thione and Sing Out, Louise! Productions. We will bow on Broadway in the 2011-12 season.

    • Jay,

Thanks a bunch for commenting and putting all those details into my simple post. I’ll make sure to double-up on these things you wrote the next time “we” talk about it (we meaning my network of friends and acquaintances in the online social sphere).

And I did join the FB Fan Page as well as invited friends to do so as well.

Keep us posted! Cheers and Happy Easter!
