Globe Telecom’s “Rogue One Mask”, created by Publicis JimenezBasic, was shortlisted as a finalist in the Tangrams Effectiveness@Spikes Awards. The Tangrams (formerly Asian Marketing Effectiveness and Strategy Awards) are Asia Pacific’s foremost awards honoring clients and their agencies for marketing strategies that deliver solid results to transform businesses and brands.

The annual awards are evaluated by a panel of top client and agency professionals who review the submissions against stringent criteria to determine the winners.

The Tangrams awards will be held at Spikes Asia on 27 September at Suntec Singapore.

Globe stated (in a press release sent to @miniphils) that instead of focusing on revenue-generating marketing activities like for-sale merchandising, the company launched “Create.Courage.” (or #CreateCourage), a campaign designed to advocate for non-judgmental understanding and to celebrate bravery during struggle.

If you recall, the YouTube video-short showed the younger sibling of a brother wearing a Stormtrooper helmet/mask walking to school and inside the classroom, at home, during play, in bed and even while brushing their teeth. When the youngster enters the classroom the following day, all the classmates were all wearing the same Stormtrooper headgear. Only then did the she reveal what was inside the headgear… Well, it’s best you watch it (again).

In the press release, Globe said it created the video to raise awareness for the plight of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), which needed to raise funds for the rehabilitation of its pediatric oncology clinic. Globe enlisted the support of its millions of viewers to donate to the clinic, so that the hospital could make it a warmer, more cheerful environment conducive to the children’s recovery.

Globe Chief Commercial Officer Albert De Larrazabal said,Rogue One is the story of unlikely heroes who banded together to do unexpected heroic feats. Our story pays homage to people like that, who persevere through untold odds. In particular, we wanted to recognize children who are facing tremendous challenges but whose spirit and heart keep them going, determined to prevail.  We are honored by the recognition from Tangrams and grateful to have been given the chance to try and positively impact the real world.

The first time I watched it, I had to shed a tear; or two; or a pail! LOL!

Incidentally, there are also five more organizations from the Philippines in the shortlist, namely:

  • Splash Corporation for “The Beautiful Truth” by Publicis JimenezBasic
  • Smart Communications for “Accepted” By Dentsu Jayme Syfu
  • Unilever for “The Good Experiment” by Dentsu Jayme Syfu
  • MMDA for “IsThereAProblemOfficer.ph” by McCann Worldgroup
  • CARMMA* for “Correcting History” by TBWASantiago Mangada Puno

*Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses to Malacañang

Globe is competing against 102 organizations in 14 countries, namely Australia (24 entries), China (16), Hong Kong (3), India (13), Indonesia (1), Japan (2), Malaysia (1), New Zealand (7), Pakistan (1), Singapore (11), Taiwan (5), Thailand (5), and Vietnam (5).

For the complete list, please visit www.tangrams.asia/general/2017-effectiveness.

Congratulations to Globe Telecom. Hope you guys win the Tangrams Effectiveness@Spikes Awards for your “Rouge One Mask” / Create Courage campaign entry.

Sharp AQUOS XU Series Launched – 4K TV with 8K Resolution

leave a comment »

On April 21, 2016, Sharp Philippines launched one of its most innovative series of LED/flatscreen televisions at the Grand Ballroom of the Shangri-La Hotel Makati. It was attended by hundreds of Sharp dealers nationwide with media people in tow. The grand event was held during lunch time while an evening affair was to be conducted with the attending dealers.

Blog Ownership: https://miniphilippines.wordpress.com/2016/05/15/sharp-aquos-xu-series-launched-4k-tv-with-8k-resolution/ (Do not plagiarize.)

Sharp AQUOS XU first 4K TV with 8K resolution. What this means is that the Sharp AQUOS XU series achieves its 8K resolution on a 4K Ultra HD panel. This is the result of Sharp’s laboratory testing using a test pattern with 7680 x 4320 pixels. All these are combined with Sharp’s proprietary Qualtron Pro 4-Color Technology and its newest upscaling technology, the X8-Master Engine Pro. The result of all these is a true-to-life detail with the most vivid color expression and deepest contrast.

The Sharp AQUOS XU series displays more color than most conventional TV models around. The Rich Color Pro Technology enhances the 4-color technology with a direct backlight that expands color by 40 percent; hence, the true-to-life detail and most vivid color expression. The Sharp AQUOS XU also uses another technology, the Ultra Dynamic Range Pro which also uses the direct backlight to achieve the darkest blacks and the brightest whites to achieve awesome contrast.

For all television sets, glare has always been a consideration. Sharp AQUOS XU anti-glare technology is called N-Black Anti-Glare Technology which reduces the reflection on the screen and increasing color reproduction.

Sharp AQUOS XU Smart Remote is what ups the ante. It has a touch pad and a slide bar for quick access to features such as Google Voice Search and Netflix. Not only that, the Sharp AQUOS XU works with the latest Android TV platform, becoming a true entertainment system. With the Google Voice Search function in 61 languages, you can stream movies and TV shows, listen to music, play Android games and get access to Netflix, YouTube and more. Not to mention having access to over 600 Android apps and games.

The one thing Sharp did good in its Sharp AQUOS XU is to incorporate Google Chromecast as a built-in feature, allowing you to cast (meaning wirelessly stream) whatever is on your laptop, desktop, table or smartphone. I don’t have the Sharp AQUOS XU system but I had to buy the Google Chromecast dongle that connects to my LED TV so I can cast Netflix, iFlix or HOOQ while working on my laptop. It’s truly awesome that Sharp decided Google Chromecast has to be built-in.

The Sharp AQUOS XU series comes in a 50-inch, 58-inch and 65-inch 4K Ultra-HD Android-power TV and is now available at leading appliance stores, nationwide. For more information, visit www.sharp.ph or its social media accounts in Facebook and Instagram.

Sean Parker, the Napster guy and one-time President of Facebook, is at a reboot stage with his video-messaging app called Airtime. The once embarrassing moment of launching Airtime the first time among the who’s who bombed, this time there ain’t no glitzy launches. The new version of Airtime looks promising. Well, this time.

URL: https://miniphilippines.wordpress.com/2016/04/23/the-new-version-of-airtime-social-network-app-looks-promising/

So, what’s Airtime? Let me count the ways…

For one, Airtime is founded by Sean Parker and Shawn Fanning and is backed by Kleiner Perkins, Andreessen Horowitz, Google Ventures, Founders Fund, and a host of unnamed partners. Seeing Kleiner Perkins there means a lot. Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield and Byers is a venture capital company in Sand Hill which has backed the likes of AOL, Amazon.com, Navigenics, Citrix, Compaq, Electronic Arts, Genentech, Genomic Health, Geron Corporation, Google, Intuit, Juniper Networks, Nebula, Netscape, Sun Microsystems, Symantec, Verisign, WebMD and Zynga.

D5 Studio Hits 2.7 Million Views with Jasmine Curtis-Smith in Forever Sucks

leave a comment »

Did you know that Forever Sucks is a comedy-drama soap opera show not being shown on traditional air- or cable-TV but exclusively through the web through D5 Studio?

TV5 today presented to the Philippine online and offline media its new creation called D5 Studio, which was originally launched labeled as Digital 5 and was once just a digital support team of MediaQuest. The media briefing was held at the new Shangri-La at The Fort Hotel in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City.

TV5, formerly known as ABC 5, is a Filipino commercial television network solely owned by MediaQuest Holdings, Inc. which in turn is a wholly owned subsidiary of the beneficial trust fund of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company headed by business tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan,

Headlining D5 Studio’s cadre of digital content is Forever Sucks, a story of Izabel, a 170-yr old vampire pretending to be a normal 21-yr old that after 10 decades of swearing off men, she meets a human who may finally change her life forever. Forever Sucks stars Jasmine Curtis-Smith is already in its 10th episode. Each episode of Forever Sucks runs about 10 minutes or so, and can be watched through the Internet using your desktop, laptop, tablet or smartphone. As of today, Forever Sucks boasts 2.7 million views and already has a large following akin to traditional on-the-air and cable TV shows.

D5 Studio produces digital content through three platforms: D5 Studio Originals, GG Network and uLOLS. Much like HBO Originals, D5 Studio Originals showcases unconventional show themes and formats, leading it off with Forever Sucks. GG Network creates gaming and eSports content and events which intends to bring the country’s top game streamers, local publishers and international game distributors. D5 Studio uses Hopscotch mobile platform, and Sports5 mobile portal is powered by Hopscotch. Finally, uLOLS bring humor to the D5 Studio entertainment content through shareable original content on Filipino culture and trends

D5 Studio creates digital content for Millennials because every marketplace expert knows, Millennials are forever glued to their personal digital devices than sitting down in the family sala watching television altogether.

Viva Manileña blogger Edel Santiago won an Apple Macbook Air because she fielded the best question during the media briefing.

As a ROAR TMCI managing director, I know for a fact that Facebook alone in the Philippines is viewed using a tablet or smartphone 90 percent of the time, leaving 10 percent to be shared using desktops and laptops. That single, glaring statistic tells you how you must envision delivering entertainment, gaming and sports content – not through traditional means but by way of the web. When radio and television once ruled and managed your time, today Millennials want to rule their time through on-demand and portable content.

D5 Studio is clearly leading the way ahead of the other major networks to provide a multi-platform, multi-discipline and multi-channel network for the Millennial.
