The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) will begin the pilot testing of its P1.4 billion “Free WiFi in Public Places” project this July 2015. Originally planned to be a limited service up to 256 kbps speeds, this limit will now be removed allowing speeds that cater to streaming video sites like YouTube.

The six areas that will commence the pilot test are:

  • Rizal Park, Manila
  • Quezon City Hall, Quezon City
  • Quezon Memorial Circle, Quezon City
  • Philippine Coconut Authority (Philcoa), Quezon City
  • Land Transportation Office (LTO) office, East Avenue, Quezon City
  • Social Security System (SSS) office, East Avenue, Quezon City

The next free WiFi hotspots planned for activation will be in the area of Pasig City and Mandaluyong City.
