Maryland sixth grader Kirsten Solloway, who has a Filipino stepfather, started a fund-raising drive with her classmate Ryleigh Justice for the benefit of the tyhpoon Haiyan or Yolanda in the Philippines. They raised more than $1,000 in 18 days which they donated to the American Red Cross.

Filipinos Not Part of Top 10 U.S. Deportees

Filipinos were not part of the top 10 list of ethnic minorities that were deported from the United States in 2013, which totaled approximately 370,000 immigrants. The number comes from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) which is 10 percent lower than last year.
